VICE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE
Face It, Republicans, ‘Bazooka Joe’ Biden Won the VP Debate

Like a bulldog picking up the scent of fresh meat and not quite sure where to find it, Biden tore up everything in sight. He went after moderator Martha Raddatz when she challenged him on defense cuts. He went after the time clock when he thought he was getting cheated. (It turned out he spoke for longer than his opponent did.) And there wasn’t a sentence Rep. Paul Ryan uttered that was not the subject of a Biden snarl or sneer or alarmingly white-toothed grin or laughter or interruption or all of the above. If anything, Biden helped President Obama by restoring some energy to a demoralized base. Biden was everything the president was not in his encounter with Mitt Romney: feisty, passionate, eager, the “happy warrior” that Obama has never seemed to be.

Paul Ryan Wins Debate as Joe Biden Fails to Embarrass Rival
http://news.yahoo.com/paul-ryan-wins-debate-joe-biden-fails-embarrass-234917623--politics.html
Biden failed in that goal, for the most part, though the sometimes gaffe-prone vice president certainly did not embarrass himself. Ryan, who for much of his young career has been a hero to conservatives, managed to successfully portray himself and Romney as defenders of the middle class and responsible stewards of foreign policy who would not get America into another war.But Biden for the most part failed to add enough substance to his stock phrases of dismissal --“That’s a bunch of malarkey." ... “Not a single thing he said was accurate.” ... “This is a bunch of stuff” -- to embarrass Ryan. In particular, Ryan managed to neutralize the issue of whether Romney's proposed 20 percent cut in marginal tax rates would favor the rich, despite the lack of specifics of which deductions and loopholes the Republicans would eliminate.
I THINK THAT JOE BIDEN WON THE DEBATE EVEN WITH HIS RUDE COMMENTS AND SMILING. HE KNEW WHAT HE WAS TALKING ABOUT WHILE PAUL RYAN GAVE MOSTLY GENERALIZATIONS AND I PERSONALY THINK HE WAS NERVOUS AND DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY HALF THE TIME; MAYBE THAT IS WHY HE DRANK SO MUCH WATER.

VICE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE
After wathing the vice presidential debate between Repblican Paul Ryan and Democratic Joe Biden, I think that Joe Biden won the dabate. Not only did he seem more intense in the debate, he also had a lot to say about the issues in Amierca. What I don't understand is that a lot of people were complaining that it didn't matter that Repulblican Mitt Romney kept on interupting in his debate with President Barack Obama, but when Democratic Joe Bidden interupts in his debate most people made a huge deal about it. The complaints about Obama being to quiet and not making eye contact with Mitt Romney should have been comprimised when Joe Biden did it, but everyone was upset about that, which also doesn't make sense. I also want to put out there that when the monerator would ask a question Biden was spot on with answering it and he gave several real life examples on how it was, while Paul Ryan never answered the question, all he would do is talk about something close to the subject and never give the answer to the question, which really aggrivated me, therefore I stopped watching the debate after the tax segment. I do feel bad that Paul Ryan was cut off so many times, but it was only because he kept on talking about stuff that was always irrlevent or not direct to the question being asked. So I would say that Mitt Romney won the Presidental Debate, and Joe Biden won the Vice Presidential debate.

The pharmacy at the center of a deadly U.S. meningitis outbreak possibly linked to tainted steroid injections faced mounting federal and state scrutiny on Thursday, including a potential criminal investigation, as the national death toll climbed to 14. As many as 14,000 people - 1,000 more than previously thought - received injections from suspect shipments of steroid treatments produced by the Framingham, Massachusetts-based New England Compounding Center (NECC).

Reuters reviewed more than a dozen emails that show the New England Compounding Center, contrary to state rules, sold drugs without requiring physicians to supply individual patient prescriptions. Massachusetts prohibits pharmacies such as NECC, which create drugs that are unavailable from pharmaceutical companies, from selling medications without being in receipt of a prescription. It is not illegal, however, for healthcare providers to buy in bulk from licensed pharmacies, of which NECC was one.

O’Reilly, Stewart tangle over election, Bush and birth control in rowdy mock debate
The 90-minute exchange between the Fox News anchor and the star of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show,” saw them banter aggressively but good-naturedly over birth control, President George W. Bush and the so-called “War on Christmas.” The political feud between the two TV personalities dates back more than a decade. Stewart and O’Reilly love to disagree, but appear to hold nothing against each other afterward. The two have appeared on each other’s programs since 2001, but the face-off at The George Washington University marked their first head-to-head debate.
Birth control as election issue? Why?
Republican presidential candidate, Rick Santorum talks to Charlie Rose about the controversial statement about contraception made by one of his benefactors.Decades ago, near the end of the Age of Aquarius, a Republican congressman from Texas argued passionately that the federal government should pay for birth control for poor women.
Birth Control, Abortion & Election 2012: A Collegiette's Guide
the issues of birth control and abortion impact each and every young woman in this country. Whether you’ve ever purchased a birth control pill, debated with friends about the morality of abortion, or had a family member go to Planned Parenthood for a breast cancer screening, as a young woman you are inevitably affected by the discussion and status of women’s sexual health in this country. Issues of women’s reproductive health have forced their way to the forefront of the presidential election, and it is discouraging and a little disconcerting how few women are included in the conversation at the highest level, the Sandra Flukes of the world notwithstanding. This November, our vote is our microphone. The support of strong and informed female voters can be invaluable to a presidential candidate

FOX 25 discusses medical marijuana ballot question

A Rhode Island woman who suffers from two medical conditions spoke with FOX 25 about using medical marijuana to ease her pain. Ellen Lenox Smith doesn't want to be in a wheel chair or wear a neck brace, but it's the only way she can get around when her conditions get really bad. "I've had 20 surgeries to try and get myself back on my feet, to walk again, to be able to move around and hold myself together," says Ellen. If medical marijuana becomes legal in Mass., there would be distribution centers with strict oversight where patients would have written permission from their doctors saying they have a specific debilitating medical condition like cancer, glaucoma, HIV, AIDS, hepatitis C, Crohns, ALS, and more.

Marijuana and Medical Marijuana
Marijuana’s use has particularly increased among teenagers. According to a December 2011 government report, one out of every 15 high school students smokes marijuana on a near daily basis, a figure that has reached a 30-year peak even as use of alcohol, cigarettes and cocaine among teenagers continued a slow decline. The popularity of marijuana reflects what researchers and drug officials say is a growing perception among teenagers that habitual marijuana use carries little risk of harm. That perception, experts say, is fueled in part by wider familiarity with medical marijuana and greater ease in obtaining it.http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/subjects/m/marijuana/index.html

Facebook is still popular?
I didn't think that Facebook was still growing but I guess it is. As of last week Facebook has reached it's 1 billionth user. I think that more adults go on Facebook than kids because parents want to keep intouch with their relatives and friends from college. I thought that teens were starting to forget about Facebook and lean more towards Twitter. I also think that the younger population has something to do with the Facebook growth because they are probably too young to understand the whole concept of Twitter, so they just stick to Facebook. From my personal experience with Facebook lately, the majority of the 'timeline' is kids younger than a high school student.
I also see more commercial use on Facebook when I actually go on. Everything on Facebook has an app, and a lot of company's use Facebook to connect with their customers, by setting a Facebook page, that people can either like or follow. In the next couple years I think that the Facebook population will go downhill while the Twitter world rises.

Facebook Has 1 Billion Users, Mark Zuckerberg Announces In A Status Update
Facebook officially now has over 1 billion active monthly users, a new milestone for the world's largest social network. The update to the size of Facebook, founded only in 2004 from a college dorm room, was announced by founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg in a statuts update on the morning of October 4.
A majority of Facebook users (600 million) are using mobile phones to log on to the social network, Facebook reports. Since becoming a publicly traded company in May, investors have doubted the company's ability to sell ads on mobile phones as its users increasingly check status updates and upload photos from phones instead of desktops or laptops. Since initially selling for $38 in May, Facebook's stock price has plummeted to $21.83 as of October 3.

Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren is out with a new ad explaining her claims of Native American heritage. In the ad, Elizabeth Warrwn explains she never benefitted from listing herself as a minority in legal directories. Warren has said she believes she is part Cherokee, but hasn't shown any documents to prove it. Senator Scott Brown is using her claims of Native American heritage against her in his new ad. He goes negative and hits Warren hard on the issue. Brown has repeatedly called on Warren to release her personnel files from Harvard. In a statement, Brown's campaign manager accuses Warren of misleading voters, and says she won't release her files because they wouldn't support her story.
Elizabeth Warren supporters should spare the sanctimony considering they covered for her ethnic fraud
Warren keeps saying that kids don’t ask their parents for proof. But she didn’t check the box when she was a kid. She waited until she was in her late 30s and climbing the law professor ladder, and then only did it in a strategic manner to put herself on the advantageous list of “Minority Law Teachers” and “Women of Color in Legal Academia.” Other than checking the box, she did nothing to associate with real Native Americans. Warren supporters should spare us all the sanctimony, since they were silent in the face of Warren walking all over the Cherokee people and using historical tragedies of a people in which she has no claim for her advantage.

NFL Refs?
Me, not being the biggest football fan in the world, I have had to look up some of the problems that these so called refs have caused. Apparently in the Patriots verse Ravens game and the Seahawks verse Packers games were considered unfair because of some of the calls made during the game, which are now leading to controversies over the teams wins. In my opinion I think that since fans don't get to have the original refs there during the games, they will be even more dramatic when these new refs can't handle the game.

I believe that my quiz voted for Obama because I think that it is very important for everyone to have health care and I like his idea that you can be 26 and still under your parents health insurence. I also agree with Obama because he seems to care a lot about scientific advances. Yet, I do agree with Romney's ideas of re-building the economy and helping maintain larger buisnesses.
I don't think that this quiz is that relevant to the president that you want because you can agree with certain beliefs a president believes in but it doesn't ask you the personality of the president. It does give you a general idea on what you believe it but even in class people that were against Obama, they're quiz favored with Romney and vice versa.

SECRET VIDEO: Romney Tells Millionaire Donors What He REALLY Thinks of Obama Voters

DISAGREE WITH WHAT HE HAD TO SAY
Earlier this year Republican presidential Candiadate Mitt Romney held a private fundraiser which was leaked recently. During the fundraiser this year Roomney told what he really thought about Barack Obama. He was speaking to a small group of very wealthy contributors. He dismissed these Americans as freeloaders who pay no taxes, who don't assume responsibility for their lives, and who think government should take care of them. Fielding a question from a donor about how he could triumph in November, Romney replied:
There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…These are people who pay no income tax.Mitt Romney Had a 'Good Week' (in RNC Chairman's Alternate Reality)

AGREE WITH WHAT HE HAD TO SAY
Republican pundits came forward with similar opinions on the week that was: Bill Kristol labeled Romney's "47 percent" comments as "arrogant and stupid" before calling on the candidate to embrace this as an election built around a choice. The New York Times' David Brooks told NBC's Meet the Press that Romney is "a non-ideological person running in an extremely ideological age, and he’s faking it," which has cost him dearly. Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal's Peggy Noonan — who recently called Romney a "rolling calamity" — said on CBS's Face the Nation today that "privately the constant communication I got was, 'Thank you for saying that.'"
The first article was on a Democratic side about how they thought Mitt Romney was being rude, raw and unplugged towards his opponent Barack Obama. While the other article was from the Repulican side, saying that Romney was being truthful towards his audience.

Chicago Teachers Union leaders voted on Tuesday to suspend a strike that closed the nation's third-largest school district for more than a week, ending a confrontation with Mayor Rahm Emanuel that focused national attention on how to reform failing urban schools. The strike has focused attention on a national debate over how to improve failing schools. Emanuel, backed by a powerful reform movement, believes poorly performing schools should be closed and reopened with new staff or converted to "charter" schools that often are non-union and run by private groups. he contract that union delegates debated includes numerous compromises from Emanuel, including a key demand that teacher evaluations be based on results of standardized tests of student reading, math and science. Test results will be taken into consideration but not as much as Emanuel originally wanted.
Chicago Teachers Strike Suspended, Students Head Back To School Wednesday

The Chicago Teachers Union voted Tuesday to suspend the city's first teachers strike in 25 years, ending a now week-and-a-half-long protest that has kept the city's 350,000 students out of school for seven days. The decision comes after more than two hours of closed-door talks among union members, and two days after a move to continue the strike to allow more time for educators to review contract details. The extensive time without class in session also prompted Mayor Rahm Emanuel to seek an injunction Monday that would have forced teachers back to schools. The judge, however, delayed the ruling until Wednesday in anticipation of Tuesday's vote, deeming the legal argument a moot point if the union were to freeze the strike. Extra days will be added to the end of the school year for students to make up missed days.

The Department of Public Health is recommending that Trader Joe's shoppers toss out a popular food item. Health officials released a warning on Friday night about "Trader Joe's Valencia Creamy Salted Peanut Butter made with Sea Salt." Officials believe the peanut butter may be related to a recent salmonella outbreak. A total of 29 cases have been reported since June 11. Three of those cases occurred in Massachusetts. Anyone who became sick after consuming that brand of peanut butter is told to contact their physician. Several health agencies including the Center for Disease Control and the FDA are investigating the outbreak.

Thousands of striking teachers rally in Chicago
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/story/2012/09/15/thousands-of-striking-teachers-rally-in-chicago/57785298/1
"Thousands of striking Chicago public school teachers and their allies packed a city park Saturday in a boisterous show of force as union leaders and the district tried to work out the details of an agreement that could end a week-long walkout", (Chicago AP). Teachers involved in the strike say that this strike is a symbol of hope for public teachers of the future. It has been several months of contract negotiations which came down to two main issues: job security and union opposition to a new teacher evaluation process the union felt was too heavily weighted on student test scores. Late Saturday, the union said it would present to its members a three-year contract that included a raise in each year and creates a hiring pool with the goal of giving half of open jobs to laid-off teachers. The contract also includes a new evaluation procedure based in part on student test scores, but teachers can appeal their ratings, the union said. The district and union have the option of extending the contract into a fourth year. Until this past week Chicago teachers haven't gone on strike since 1987.
Chicago Teachers Strike May Near End As Union Releases Deal
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/16/chicago-teachers-strike-m_n_1887620.html
"A deal is on the table Saturday night to end a nearly weeklong Chicago teachers strike, though classes could still be canceled Monday as the union's House of Delegates reviews the proposal. "
The deal features major concessions from Emanuel, who campaigned to become Chicago's mayor with a promise to shake up the Windy City's schools. The contract would count teachers' students' standardized test scores toward their evaluations for the minimum percentage allowed by law. The contract would last three years not four. President Karen Lewis stated no contract will solve all of the inequities in our District.
Union opts to continue Chicago teachers strike; mayor takes fight to court

"The week-old teachers strike in Chicago's public schools will continue into the new week, after a representative group of the Chicago Teachers Union decided not to end the walkout even though union leaders and school officials had reached a tentative contract deal", according to Chicago CNN. This bold move left Mayor Rahm Emanuel to go to court tp force the teachers back to work, and saying that a delay of this is wrong for the children. "I will not stand by while the children of Chicago are played as pawns in an internal dispute within a union," Emanuel said. The House of Delegates will reconvene Tuesday afternoon, at which point delegates could decide to end the strike, or not. If they do, classes could resume at earliest on Wednesday. There have been no classes all last week for more than 350,000 students in Chicago, home to the nation's third-largest school system, when the union went on strike after failing to reach a contract agreement with school board officials. Also for high school athletes, this strie can put scholarships on the line.

This article "Navy Seal Mark Bissionette Should be Prosecuted", was about how viewers think that he was going against his Navy code to unvail the mission his troop went on to kill Osama bin Laden. The person that wrote this article said that there was no need for him to write this book or give this interview because America did'nt need to know. She states that "It’s a national security risk and a huge violation of what Mark Bissonnette agreed to do when he signed the agreement every Navy SEAL must sign, agreeing to keep details of his missions confidential. She thinks that he should be prosecuted but he won't be prosecuted because there won't be a jury who will convict and send to prison the man that killed the mastermind of the largest massacre of Americans on U.S.
What both this articles have in common is that they talk about how it is interesting and riveting. Both articles summoned up that it was cool for the audience to see and hear about the planning of the raid and how it went down, just one article thought that it was okay while another did not. They also both mentioned that for the interview he used a fake name "Mark Owen" even though his real name is Matt Bissonnette.

Former Navy SEAL Matt Bissonnette says SEALs raiding Osama bin Laden's Pakistan hideout last year shot him dead instead of capturing him because his arms were hidden and may have been holding weapons. One SEAL fired after seeing a man's head poking into a hallway. Another SEAL shot bin Laden again after finding him on his bedroom floor with a bullet in his skull, because bin Laden's hands were hidden. That's more detail than was included in "No Easy Day," the newly released book Bissonnette wrote under the pseudonym Mark Owen.

Thousands of teachers strike in Chicago
News VideoNearly 26,000 teachers and support staff have joined teacher strike in Chicago because they want fair contracts. They have been trying to negotiate a contract for about 10 months and still haven't figured out a plan. Yet, Chicago is the 3rd largest school district in the country so the students should have came first. There are 400,000 students now not in class while this teacher strike is going on. Now recreation churches and some school cafeterias are open only to serve breakfast and lunch. Chicago has the highest paid of any city at 76,000 a year and they were suppost to get a 16% higher raise over the next 4 years but the teachers want 34%. Teachers are also worrying about the new teacher evaluation, which is the city evaluationing the students grades to evaluate the teachers. There has been no specific response from the president and Romney is using that to his advantage, especially how Chicago is President Obama's home city.

Personal Opinion
My personal opinion on 9/11
When I first found out about 9/11 when I was only on first grade I didn't really understand it. I remember coming home and asking my grandma about it and I'm not quite sure what she said but I think it was along the lines of something bad happened to America and how much of a sin it was. Other than that I don't really remember my parents or anyone really telling me what happened. All I really got out of it at the time was that Mr.Coombs had been on one of the flights. Th only reason I knew that was because my friends that were frieds with Julia were talking about it at school. Other than that my knowledge about 9/11 was very brief and I never really fully understood it until middle school.
Today I know that 9/11 is known for a day to remember thousands of people that died in the terrorist attack against the United States. Last year in particular, in my English class we studied 9/11 for a full week. I learned and watched videos on how terrifying the attack was. I'm almost positive that when I first watched the video I started to tear up. Just hearing the screams and seeing people jump out of the twin towers was horrifying to watch. I also did a project on 9/11 last year where I had to interview people that were old enough to understand 9/11 at the time. I interviewed Mr.Nuttal, who is an Abington fire fighter. When researching 9/11 last year I found out that fire fighters today are still suffering and dying from the burning toxins in the air that they inhaled after trying to help out after the attack.
After reading several articles, watching videos, and having interviews, I've realized how important it is to learn about 9/11. I understand that when children are at a young age they probably won't understand, but since this event happened during our lifetime I think it is very important that teacher teach their students about it. Today I continue to think about 9/11 as a day to rember all those people that have died during the attack, especially the fire fighter and everyone that died trying to help.
