My personal opinion on 9/11
When I first found out about 9/11 when I was only on first grade I didn't really understand it. I remember coming home and asking my grandma about it and I'm not quite sure what she said but I think it was along the lines of something bad happened to America and how much of a sin it was. Other than that I don't really remember my parents or anyone really telling me what happened. All I really got out of it at the time was that Mr.Coombs had been on one of the flights. Th only reason I knew that was because my friends that were frieds with Julia were talking about it at school. Other than that my knowledge about 9/11 was very brief and I never really fully understood it until middle school.
Today I know that 9/11 is known for a day to remember thousands of people that died in the terrorist attack against the United States. Last year in particular, in my English class we studied 9/11 for a full week. I learned and watched videos on how terrifying the attack was. I'm almost positive that when I first watched the video I started to tear up. Just hearing the screams and seeing people jump out of the twin towers was horrifying to watch. I also did a project on 9/11 last year where I had to interview people that were old enough to understand 9/11 at the time. I interviewed Mr.Nuttal, who is an Abington fire fighter. When researching 9/11 last year I found out that fire fighters today are still suffering and dying from the burning toxins in the air that they inhaled after trying to help out after the attack.
After reading several articles, watching videos, and having interviews, I've realized how important it is to learn about 9/11. I understand that when children are at a young age they probably won't understand, but since this event happened during our lifetime I think it is very important that teacher teach their students about it. Today I continue to think about 9/11 as a day to rember all those people that have died during the attack, especially the fire fighter and everyone that died trying to help.
